The Epcot sphere at Walt Disney World® Resort has had a major change to it's appearance this week with the removal of the familiar sight of the 257-foot tall Mickey Mouse arm and glove, holding the magic wand with the word "Epcot" surrounded by stars. This much-loved arm and wand went up as a part of the Epcot park's 2000 celebrations in 1999.
Walt Disney World® Resort officials decided that it was time for the sign to come down - just in time for the 25th anniversary of Epcot opening that will be celebrated in the fall of 2007. Local newscasters are taking side-bets on what will replace this landmark structure....but Disney is keeping quiet for now.
